The project supports provision of renewable and reliable electricity to the poor communities in KPK province of the country by development of Mini/Pico grids based on PV and hydro technologies. Furthermore, the project also includes a bio-diversity component which address the environmental mitigation aspects related to the development of the sub-projects. Main project features include:
Planning, design and construction supervision of 68 PV based and 5 MHP based mini-grid systems. All systems also include street lighting systems.
- Design and implementation of relevant tariff and O&M strategies keeping in view the social contexts in each of the project locations.
- Support partner organizations and supervise EPC contractor in project implementation in line with national and provincial regulations for environmental and other relevant standards.
- Design of options (from technical perspective) for grid integration of larger mini-grids to nearby central grid via grid extension or upon grid arrival.
- Training of partner organizations and community representatives in commissioning and O&M
- of mini-grids, ideally with support of local suppliers of repairs and spare parts.
